A research paper co-authored by Yong Wang showed that a single-atom catalyst was able to remove methane from engine exhaust at lower temperatures, creating the potential to lower exhaust emissions of methane, one of the worst greenhouse gases.

Mani Venkatasubramanian received the IEEE Power and Engineering Society’s Prabha S. Kundar Power SystemDynamics & Control Award for his career efforts in modeling & monitoring power system oscillations.

Augusto Zanin Bertoletti won the IEEE Power and Engineering Society’s Outstanding Student Scholarship.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm and Indian Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri recently met and praised the longstanding joint R&D under the Partnership to Advance Clean Energy-Research (PACE-R), including the US-India Collaborative for Smart Distribution System with Storage (UI-ASSIST) consortium co-led by Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and Washington State University.

Outdoor Heat Exposure

The Department of Labor and Industries updated Outdoor Heat Exposure requirements, with new rules becoming effective July 17. The rules apply to all employees working outdoors for 15 minutes or more in a 60‑minute period once temperatures reach 80 degrees. To review the new requirements, see EH&S’ Heat Exposure web page.
