Prashanta Dutta is the lead principal investigator on NRT-Lead, a multidisciplinary WSU project funded by the National Science Foundation which will develop a new generation of engineers who will learn how to build better robots and make them work better with, and for, humans.

In the recent Voiland College Faculty Senate Representative elections, Jin Liu was elected as the VCEA Tenure Track representative Seat C, and Sakire Arslan Ay was elected as the VCEA Career Track representative, Seat G. Their terms begin on August 16, 2023 and end on August 15, 2026.

The VCEA Inside Scoop is an event to celebrate all Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture students starting the fall semester. With ice cream from Ferdinand’s and clubs looking for new members, students will truly get an inside scoop of what clubs have planned for the 2023 – 2024 academic year!

Research Participants Wanted

Voiland School Associate Professor Anita Vasavada is looking for research participants for her study on head posture, neck strength and neck muscle activity. The 2-hour study will consist of answering survey questions, having sensors placed on your neck, and exerting to generate your maximum neck strength against resistance. Participants must be at least 21 years of age. Participants will receive a $30 Fred Meyer gift card. If you are interested, please email Anita at vasavada@wsu.edu.

Summer Undergraduate Research Poster Event Aug. 4

The faculty-mentored research of more than 80 students from 51 universities will be featured at Washington State University’s Summer Undergraduate Research Symposium from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Fri., Aug. 4 in the Smith CUE Atrium at WSU Pullman. The poster event will showcase the efforts and results of the students, who will be present to explain their work. The event is open to the public at no charge, with light refreshments served.

ELEVATE Teaching Conference August 16

Washington State University faculty and teaching graduate students can now register online for the Aug. 16 system-wide ELEVATE conference focused on the theme of “Timely Topics to ELEVATE Your Teaching.”

AGI Day August 30

Join us for PNNL/WSU Advanced Grid Institute (AGI) Industry Day on August 30, in Richland, Washington or virtually. This year’s theme is “Pathways Toward a Clean Energy Grid.” Speakers from across government, utilities, industry, universities, and national labs will share their insights into challenges and opportunities as we work towards clean power systems of the future. Our keynote presentation will be by US DOE’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Grid Systems and Components Division Michael Pesin. Visit the event website for more information.

ESIC 50th Anniversary Celebration September 15

Please join the Energy Systems Innovation Center for an all-day celebration event in Pullman, Friday, September 15, 2023. The day will include lab tours, guest speakers and presentations on the past, present and future of WSU Power Engineering and Industry Collaborations. Outdoor Heat Exposure

The Department of Labor and Industries updated Outdoor Heat Exposure requirements, with new rules becoming effective July 17. The rules apply to all employees working outdoors for 15 minutes or more in a 60‑minute period once temperatures reach 80 degrees. To review the new requirements, see EH&S’ Heat Exposure web page.
