Ananth Kalyanaraman named interim EECS director

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Ananth Kalyanaraman has been named interim director of Washington State University’s School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Ananth will fill the position Partha Pande vacates when Pande becomes interim dean of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture in February. Ananth and Partha will serve in their interim roles until a new dean is appointed at which time they will revert to their prior appointments.

Ananth is a Professor and Boeing Centennial Chair in computer science and holds a joint appointment at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He also is the director of the National Science Foundation / U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture-funded Institute for Agricultural AI for Transforming Workforce and Decision Support (AgAID AI Institute). He holds affiliate faculty positions at the Molecular Plant Sciences Graduate Program and the Paul G. Allen School for Global Health.

Ananth received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology in Nagpur, India, and doctoral degree from Iowa State University.

With WSU since 2006, Ananth has published more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals. He is a recipient of a Department of Energy Early Career award and is well-known in the international bioinformatics and high-performance computing research communities. He was named the Voiland College of Engineering of Architecture’s Outstanding Researcher for 2019.
