Noel Schulz has been appointed co-director of the Washington State University and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Advanced Grid Institute.

Washington State University and Palouse Habitat for Humanity announced a long-term partnership to study practical ways to create affordable, energy efficient housing.

Haluk Beyenal, postdoctoral research fellow Abdelrhman Mohamed, and graduate students Eduardo Sanchez and Natalie Sanchez have developed a way to assess soil health by measuring the electric current produced by its tiniest microbes.

Von Walden was interviewed by the Washington Post for his thoughts on Greenland’s unusually warm climate.

Néstor O. Pérez-Arancibia’s Robeetle will be included in the upcoming Guinness Book of World Records.

Canvas Learning Path

August Faculty Trainings on Canvas, Panopto, VoiceThread, Perusall

This fall semester, WSU is switching from Blackboard to Canvas. Academic Outreach and Innovation (AOI) is ready to support instructors with a variety of trainings available in August to help faculty get acquainted with Canvas.

Register for AOI trainings now! In addition to the trainings, Instructional Designers are available for on-demand support via Zoom on Mondays through Thursdays from 9-3, and will begin staffing the on-demand room on Fridays again on August 6. Learn more on our on-demand support page.

You can also review additional resources and guides for transitioning content from Blackboard and getting started in Canvas. These periodic communications provide timely and helpful information. Check them often.

Vaccine Mandated, Masks Required this Fall

Washington Governor Jay Inslee will require all school employees in the state, including those working at colleges and universities, to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 18. In addition, he reintroduced a state-wide mask mandate, regardless of an individual’s vaccination status, in response to the surging Delta variant of the SARS‑CoV‑2 virus.

COVID‑19 Vaccination Declaration – Instructions

WSU employees who are not vaccinated must file a vaccination exemption request via Workday before Aug. 23. Here’s how to find where in Workday you can complete your COVID-19 vaccination declaration.
