Led by Assefaw Gebremedhin, a WSU research team has received a $1.2 million U.S. Department of Education grant to train graduate students at the intersection of artificial intelligence, data science, and engineering to address challenges of the future electric power grid.

Researchers in the Voiland School of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering helped develop a test that determines antibiotic resistance in less than 90 minutes.

The Laboratory of Atmospheric Research is part of a team of that received a $7.6 million grant to study the impact of smoke exposure on grapes.

John Swensen and Konstantin Matveev received a grant from Washington’s Joint Center for Aerospace Technology Innovation to work with ZEVA Aero to develop a single-passenger, electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

Todd Vanek has been named president of the Council of Engineering Management Academic Leaders.

American Veteran Sneak Preview Nov. 9

This year’s Open Enrollment period, which runs from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30, features a new process for WSU faculty and staff to make any needed changes to their healthcare and other benefits.

Nov. 19 – Parking FAQs

Washington State University is hosting a Friday night football game on November 19. Pullman campus parking lots will need to be cleared of employee and student vehicles by 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021 to accommodate the Coug fans and others arriving for the evening game. Environmental Fellow Program – Apply by Jan. 10

The Environmental Fellows Program is a nationally competitive summer fellowship program for masters and doctoral students that seeks to place students traditionally underrepresented in the environmental field and those committed to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in summer fellowships with environmental foundations and their grantees.

NASA Space Grant Graduate Fellowships – Apply by Nov. 12

The Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium offers up to $2500 fellowships for graduate students in science, engineering, or math at Washington State University. These competitive fellowships are based on academic achievement, a personal essay, a recommendation from a faculty mentor and future academic promise.

PNNL-WSU Distinguished Graduate Research Program – Apply by Nov. 29

The WSU Office of Research, the WSU Graduate School, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) are pleased to announce the call for applications for the sixth cohort of the Distinguished Graduate Research Program (DGRP). Incoming students are nominated jointly by a WSU faculty and a PNNL scientist.

Interested co-advisors from WSU and PNNL should submit a joint-DGRP application online by November 29, 2021 for priority consideration. Advisor applications have a hard deadline of February 14, 2022.

The DGRP is intended to increase the quality and quantity of STEM doctoral students across the WSU system, while providing an enhanced research experience by aligning WSU faculty, students, and PNNL scientists with the unique capabilities and research programs at PNNL. Students in the DGRP are funded by their WSU and PNNL advisors, not by the DGRP. For more information, please visit DGRP, or email DGRP@wsu.edu.

The ASEE Conference for Industry and Education Collaboration is organized by College-Industry Partnership Division, Continuing Professional Development Division, Cooperative and Experiential Education Division (CEED), and Engineering Technology Division. This annual conference includes workshops, technical sessions, training, and a plenary emphasizing the long and mutually beneficial partnerships between education, industry, and government.
