Ian Wells, Camden Butikofer, Nathaniel Swets, Lauren Reising, John Bussey, Stasia Kulsa and Gregory Wallace won the prestigious Artemis Award at NASA’s Breakthrough, Innovative and Game-changing (BIG) Idea Challenge.

Dan “Annie” Du and Yuehe Lin were recognized as being among the top 1% most cited researchers in the world by Clarivate.

Led by Dingwen Tao, a WSU research team has received a National Science Foundation grant to develop a computing framework to help scientists better manage the large-scale data challenges that are used in everything from climate change and cosmology research to disease treatments.

2022 New Faculty Seed Grant Program

The Office of Research Advancement and Partnerships announces the release of the 2022 New Faculty Seed Grant Competition guidelines (DOC). The purpose of the New Faculty Seed Grant Program is to encourage new junior-level faculty to develop research, scholarly, and/or creative programs that provide the potential for sustained professional development and extramural support.

Researchers, scholars, and artists who have been appointed as new junior-level faculty no earlier than May 16, 2018 are encouraged to apply. Individual grants may not exceed $25,000 and proposals for smaller amounts are encouraged and considered equally competitive. Letters of intent are due Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. Late NOIs will not be accepted.

President’s Employee Excellence Awards – Nominations Due Nov. 30

The $2500 award is presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions by WSU administrative professional and classified employees.

Open Enrollment November 1 – 30

This year’s Open Enrollment period, which runs from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30, features a new process for WSU faculty and staff to make any needed changes to their healthcare and other benefits.

Environmental Fellow Program – Apply by Jan. 10

The Environmental Fellows Program is a nationally competitive summer fellowship program for masters and doctoral students that seeks to place students traditionally underrepresented in the environmental field and those committed to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in summer fellowships with environmental foundations and their grantees.

PNNL-WSU Distinguished Graduate Research Program – Apply by Nov. 29

The WSU Office of Research, the WSU Graduate School, and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) are pleased to announce the call for applications for the sixth cohort of the Distinguished Graduate Research Program (DGRP). Incoming students are nominated jointly by a WSU faculty and a PNNL scientist.

Interested co-advisors from WSU and PNNL should submit a joint-DGRP application online by November 29, 2021 for priority consideration. Advisor applications have a hard deadline of February 14, 2022.

The DGRP is intended to increase the quality and quantity of STEM doctoral students across the WSU system, while providing an enhanced research experience by aligning WSU faculty, students, and PNNL scientists with the unique capabilities and research programs at PNNL. Students in the DGRP are funded by their WSU and PNNL advisors, not by the DGRP. For more information, please visit DGRP, or email DGRP@wsu.edu.

Each year Academic Showcase and the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA) Research Exposition celebrate original scholarship, research, and creative expression across WSU’s academic community. Discrimination and Harassment Prevention Training

All WSU employees are required to take a Discrimination and Harassment Prevention training within the first 6 months of hire, and then an Employee Refresher Training annually thereafter.
